Public views to be heard on use of stadiums

Members of the public will have a say next year on the future use of four sporting venues in Auckland.

Auckland Council is trying to reduce costs by making the venues cater to specific sports.

It is suggesting Eden Park becomes the region's premiere stadium.

Mount Smart Stadium, home to the Warriors rugby league franchise, could be either turned into a speedway venue, or be upgraded to cater for 20,000 people.

The council also suggested Western Springs be the main cricket venue, and Colin Dale Park be turned into a speedway practise track.

Sporting groups and the public will have a say early next year.
