Crime and safety survey

11:31 am on 15 February 2009

More than 5000 people are to be interviewed in a triennial survey on crime and safety.

Justice Minister Simon Power says the last Crime and Safety Survey in 2006 showed that only one third of offences were reported to police.

He says the survey provides information about crimes that have not been reported and helps to identify those most at risk of becoming victims of crime.

A report on the findings should be available by mid-2010.
