The number of mortgagee sale listings is rising - according to the Trade Me real estate website.
Trade Me Property head Brendon Skipper says the results of a 12 month review show an increase of 231% over the past year in listings described as mortgagee sales.
He says 106 mortgagee sales were listed last month, compared to 32 in January the previous year.
The region with the highest listings was Auckland. The regions with the least were: Hawke's Bay, Marlborough, Taranaki and the West Coast.
While it's possible vendors are using the term 'mortgagee' as a selling point, Mr Skipper believes there has been an actual increase.
