2:29 pm on 16 February 2009

A pre-trial hearing has begun in Manukau District Court for a man accused of an execution-style killing last year.

John Maeva, 26, was shot three times outside his house in Papatoetoe in August.

Wayne James Bracken, 31, is charged with murder.

The Crown told the court the two had known each other for six months and were involved in the drug scene.

It said that after an argument the accused followed Mr Maeva home and shot him twice in the head and once in the chest.

Mr Maeva died in Middlemore Hospital.

The hearing is scheduled to take three days.
