Police in Porirua are investigating a confrontation between two groups in Cannons Creek that resulted in a man being hospitalised with head injuries.
They say a number of men stopped in a vehicle near the intersection of Bedford and Northumberland streets and attacked at least one person from a neighbouring house about 10.45pm on Friday.
A weapon is believed to have been used during the attack.
The vehicle is described as a dark-coloured Nissan Skyline.
Police believe one of the car's windows may been broken during the incident.
Detective Sergeant Dave Jones would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who can help identify the vehicle and its occupants.
