Boy dies as quad bike plunges off cliff

A 16-year-old boy has died while riding a quad bike along a coastal cliff 70km southwest of Balclutha.

Balclutha police are continuing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death of Rowan Parker.

The accident happened in the Chaslands area of the Catlins on Boxing Day, where the teenager was visiting a farm with friends.

He was riding along a coastal track when he lost control of the bike and rode over a cliff, falling 150m to rocks below.

The youth died at the scene, paramedics say.
