Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker is concerned about the high number of offenders on parole in the city who are not being managed properly.
A report critical of how the Corrections Department handles the offenders has revealed Christchurch has the highest number of people on parole out of any of the four regions examined.
The figures from the Auditor General show out of a total of 738 offenders on parole in four districts, Christchurch has the highest number with 264. By comparison, Auckland has 234.
And of those, 87 are listed on the Offender Warning Register, meaning Corrections has to advise victims of their release.
But Mr Parker says it's even more concerning that they're not being managed properly.
He says that significantly increases the risk to the public and he is waiting with "bated breath" to see what changes are made within the Corrections Department.
