Police say the homicide investigation into the death of a man killed in an assault in South Auckland is progressing.
Investigators have spent much of Tuesday at the scene on Pilkington Road in Panmure, where the 27-year-old died about 4.20am.
Detective Inspector Mark Benefield says the investigation is progressing after a long day of inquiries around the neighbourhood.
He says the man's name is likely to be released on Wednesday.
Police have spoken to a number of people about the attack, but so far no arrests have been made.
A post-mortem began on Tuesday, and investigations will continue into the death on Wednesday morning.
