Child Youth & Family and police are investigating the case of a Rotorua boy who was seriously injured last Friday.
The boy, aged nine months, is now in Starship hospital, Auckland, where his condition is stable.
Police said a Selwyn Heights resident rushed to a neighbour's house seeking help.
When ambulance staff arrived, the child was found with serious head injuries.
