A man has appeared in court charged in relation to a fatal stabbing in the East Auckland suburb of Panmure.
Peter Job, 38, appeared in Auckland District Court on Thursday morning, charged with assaulting Nathan Albert, 27.
He was remanded in custody and will be back in court in three weeks.
Mr Albert died at about 4am on New Year's Day on Pilkington Road.
Detective Inspector Mark Benefield earlier said the arrested man gave himself up to police on Wednesday and may face more serious charges.
No weapon has been located and police still want to hear from anyone who has information about where it may be.
