Hutt Valley police have arrested and charged a 49-year-old man with the sexual assault of a young woman in her Wainuiomata home during the early hours of Boxing Day.
Police say a forensic examination carried out at the time as well as information given by members of the community helped them track down the man, who they say is also from Wainuioumata.
He appeared in the Lower Hutt District Court on Thursday and police opposed the man being allowed bail.
