New Year stabbing accused may face more charges

6:13 pm on 3 January 2013

Police say it's too soon to say whether a man charged with assault after a man was fatally stabbed in south-east Auckland will face further charges.

The victim, Nathan Albert, 27, died after an attack in the early hours of New Year's Day in the suburb of Panmure.

Peter Job, 38, appeared in the Auckland District Court on 3 January charged with assault, and was remanded in custody until 24 January.

Detective Inspector Mark Benefield says further charges may be laid, but it's too early to tell as the investigation is continuing.

He says no one else is being sought in relation to the incident.

Officers are still searching for the knife used during the attack.
