Former prime minister Helen Clark is in New York after making the short list for a top job at the United Nations.

Miss Clark was one of about 30 applicants for the job of administrator of the United Nations Development Programme - the third-highest position at the world body.

Only a third of the applicants are being interviewed for the position this week.

An interview panel will make recommendations to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon, who is expected to make a final decision in the coming weeks.
