Police want to speak to an Auckland taxi driver who picked up a man before he was stabbed to death on New Year's Day.
Nathan Albert was found on the side of a main road in the suburb of Panmure at 4am after being fatally assaulted with a weapon.
Police officers tried to revive the 27-year-old, but were unsuccessful.
Police says they want to speak to a taxi driver who picked up Mr Albert shortly before the stabbing from Auckland City and drove him to Pilkington Road, in Panmure.
Detective Inspector Mark Benefield says no weapon has been found yet and is asking residents in the vicinity who may come across an unknown knife or sharp instrument on their property, to call the police.
A 38-year-old Panmure man has been charged with assault and police say he may face more serious charges.
