MP files court papers against executor

11:56 am on 6 January 2013

Former New Zealand First MP Brendan Horan has filed court papers to remove the executor of his mother's estate.

Mr Horan was expelled from the party's caucus on 4 December last year after leader Winston Peters said he had received information that caused him to lose confidence in the now independent MP.

In an affidavit filed at the Tauranga High Court, Mr Horan says he wants John Buckthought, the executor of his mother's estate, removed from the position.

Mr Horan says Mr Buckthought has made untrue allegations in the media that the MP stole money from his mother's estate - claims whichhe says have left his political career in tatters.

Mr Horan also denies similar allegations from his brother Mana Horan and has raised concerns about his mother's state of mind when she made changes to her will.

Mr Buckthought has declined to comment, other than to say that he has never accused anyone of stealing.

A date for a hearing to decide whether he should be removed as executor has not yet been set.
