Police confident of finding Nelson woman's attacker

Police are still searching for a man who beat and sexually assaulted a woman in Nelson on New Year's Day but are confident they will find him.

The 62-year-old was working alone at the Victory community gardens when attacked by a Maori or Polynesian man in his 20s.

A team of officers and 12 detectives are working on the case, patrolling the area and interviewing people who have come forward with information.

Forensic evidence is also being processed with urgency.

Police released a computer-generated sketch of the man on Saturday and say it has generated a significant response so far.
