Man hit by flying dinghy, airlifted to hospital

A man has been airlifted by helicopter to Nelson hospital after he was struck in the head by a flying dinghy.

The 4 metre alloy dinghy with outboard motor was on the beach at Torrent Bay in the Abel Tasman National Park when it was picked up by high winds, hitting the 71-year-old man in the head.

The man was cared for by bystanders before being flown to Nelson.
