Fire danger in dry areas

Updated at 5:38 am on 8 January 2013

The National Rural Fire Authority says the risk of fire could continue if no rain falls on dry areas in the coming days.

Hawke's Bay, the Chatham Islands, parts of the Tararua region, Rangiora and Kaikoura have total fire bans in place.

Large parts of the upper South Island are at extreme risk of fire, as well as parts of the North Island.

National Rural Fire Officer Murray Dudfield said the bans could be removed if rain falls in those regions.
