Police say there were several other assaults at Waihi Beach the night a man was fatally stabbed.
Robert Wilkinson, 64, an ex-pat New Zealander, was stabbed in the face and neck when he confronted someone outside his caravan early on New Years' Day.
Police have now reviewed hundreds of images given to them by the public and say they are building a clearer picture of the events leading up to the incident.
Detective Chris Page said there were a lot of drunk young people in the vicinity and confirmed there were several other incidents of assaults and disorder.
He said the photos are helping police to piece together the various parts of the jigsaw.
