Bad weather and accidents disrupt traffic

Bad weather and accidents are disrupting the flow of traffic at both ends of the South Island.

The road between Nelson and Rai Valley was closed for some time following a serious crash.

Meanwhile, the torrential rain forecast for much of the country has arrived in the Queenstown Lakes District.

The council reports the Glenorchy-Paradise Road at the head of Lake Wakatipu is closed.

It says travellers should be aware of possible washouts at the top of the lake.

Timaru Creek Road near Lake Hawea is flooding and very high water levels have closed the first ford on Wanaka's Mount Aspiring Road.
