NZ companies bid for ABC child centres

The New Zealand branch of ABC Learning Centres says all bids for its chain of 127 preschools and a training college have come from local businesses.

The company's Australian parent went into receivership in November and a month later decided to sell its New Zealand branch.

ABC managing director Craig Presland says all the interested parties have significant experience in the New Zealand early childhood education sector.

Mr Presland says the company is negotiating with at least four buyers and expects to be able to sell all 127 centres and its Christchurch-based training college together.

He says parents can be assured the company is in very good shape, with its centres about 80% full.
