India take men's hockey series

4:25 pm on 1 March 2009

The Indian men's hockey team has wrapped up the series against New Zealand after winning the fourth and final test in Auckland by two goals to nil.

Dilip Tirkey opened the scoring after seven minutes with a field goal, while captain Sandeep Singh sealed the match from a penalty corner with a couple of minutes to play.

It was possibly the Black Sticks best match of the series, but with both sides desperate for the win the game opened up and there were numerous scoring chances for both sides.

Black Sticks coach Shane McLeod admits to being frustrated that they didn't take the opportunity that was presented to them.

India take the test series two-nil with two of the matches drawn.

This series is part of the Black Sticks preparations for the Oceania Cup later this year.
