Police have identified a man wanted in connection with an attack on an officer in Waikato on Friday night.
Constable Perry Griffen was attacked by five people in Kawhia as he attempted to arrest a 19-year-old man wanted by police.
Police said on Monday a man seen to knock Mr Griffen to the ground with a blow from behind has been identified with the help of local people.
However, no arrest has been made yet and inquiries are continuing.
Meanwhile, charges against a 21-year old man - one of three arrested at the scene on Friday evening - have been dropped.
Police say this is the result of information received from witnesses and other inquiries.
Two other men have been charged.
