Government won't ban cigarette displays in shops

The Government has decided against banning cigarette displays in shops.

The health select committee recommended a law change to require tobacco and cigarette displays to be kept out of sight in retail outlets, after considering a petition to Parliament signed by 20,000 people.

The Government has now issued its response and says it will not change the law.

It says there is not enough evidence that a ban on retail displays would be the most effective way to reduce tobacco use.
