The Ministry of Education is testing a solution to an aspect of the Novopay payroll system.
Novopay has been plagued with errors since it was introduced last year.
The ministry said on Friday it is fixing staffing reports, which have been incorrect since last year.
Workforce group manager Rebecca Elvy said new versions will be rolled out soon.
The ministry is expecting more errors in the next two pay rounds, with the first this Wednesday.
It said some employees who have moved schools, new staff, or those who don't get paid over the holidays will be affected.
