Marmite back on shelves later this year

Marmite manufacturer Sanitarium says the spread will be back on shelves in the first half of this year.

The company was forced to close operations at its Christchurch factory last year due to earthquake damage.

Sanitarium's general manager Pierre van Heerden says the machinery in the factory has operated well after testing, and a return date for the spread will be announced in the next two to three weeks.

Mr van Heerden says the company still needs time to make and package the spread, but expects it will return in the first half of this year.
