No change of plea by teenage killer

5:14 pm on 5 March 2009

The possibility of a teenager who admitted killing a Scottish woman in Taupo applying to change his plea has been ruled out.

Jahche Broughton, 15, pleaded guilty at a pre-trial hearing on 5 February to the murder of Karen Aim on 17 January last year.

Broughton was to be sentenced on Friday, but this was delayed after he recently changed his lawyer and it was thought he may want to retract his guilty plea.

In a minute from the High Court, the counsel for Broughton has advised the presiding judge that there are no outstanding issues to be decided before the sentencing, ruling out any retraction application.

Justice Lang has directed that the sentencing will be held on 26 March.
