Tauranga police are appealing for the public's help to identify a man involved in a violent assault on a taxi driver.
The driver picked up four men from the Welcome Bay shops on Wednesday evening and drove to Ohauiti Road where he was put in a headlock by one passenger and attacked by two others.
The 40-year-old driver suffered head injuries and spent the night in hospital.
Police say nearby residents intervened and restrained one of the attackers, who they arrested, before arresting a second man.
Police say they have CCTV footage from the taxi of a third man they want to identify, as well as a fourth man with the group.
An 18-year-old and a 19-year-old man appeared in the Tauranga District Court on Thursday charged with aggravated robbery and were remanded to reappear on 29 January.
