Police in Gisborne are investigating a house fire north of the city after firefighters found what could be human remains.
The Fire Service was called to the house in Te Karaka, north of Gisborne, at 2.30am on Friday. The house had already collapsed in on itself because of the ferocity of the fire.
Inspector Marty Parker said the Fire Service found something they believe could be human remains and specialist police personnel have been called in.
