A $105 million contract has been awarded to Fletcher Construction to build the Rangiriri section of the Waikato expressway.
The Transport Agency said work will start on the 4.8km section next week. It is expected to be completed in 2016.
Six sections of the 102km expressway still have to be either completed or have design and construction started.
When finally completed, the four-lane expressway will link Auckland - Cambridge.
