A popular annual car show in North Canterbury is on noticeto improve its security.

Muscle Car Madness is expected toattract up to 15,000 enthusiasts to the Rangiora A & P showgrounds this weekend.

Last year's show ended in an outbreak of trouble, which the organisers say was caused by gatecrashers.

Waimakariri District Council has told organisers to increase security and enforce an alcohol ban.

Environmental services manager Leslie Pester said they have cooperated. He hopes it will be a success, as the show generates about $2 million for the district.
