Tenders called for new border management system

3:54 pm on 10 March 2009

Customs and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry are calling tenders for a new $120 million border management system for New Zealand.

Both agencies are due to replace individual existing systems and want to develop one over-arching process.

Customs says the joint border management system will harmonise processes with other countries and speed up trade and travel.

It will also help with management of biosecurity and other border risks.

Customs says it wants a fully operational system by 2012.
