The family of a New Zealand man killed by a falling sign in Britain have issued a statement thanking people who rushed to try to help him.

Jacob Marx, a 27-year-old lawyer from Gisborne, died in hospital after being crushed when a sign fell on him from a building in Camden, north London.

His brother, David Marx, said Jacob was a wonderful person, and a much loved friend and partner.

He thanked local people and emergency services in Camden for the help they tried to give.

Jacob Marx's family are still working on getting his body home.

Media reports in the UK said the metal sign covered the length of a betting shop and fell on the footpath.
