A man facing trial on sex charges has fled the country, after slipping the remote monitor for his "electronic bail".
The 42-year-old, who has name suppression, was to have gone on trial on Monday in the Greymouth District Court but the trial was aborted after he failed to show up.
Police are trying to find him but say given the sensitivities of the case, it is not prudent to make any further comment.
