Rugby 7s start today

The annual Wellington round of the rugby sevens begins on Friday, with more than 40,000 fans expected in the city.

It's the competition's 13th edition since its first came to Wellington.

The first games begin from at 1pm and the New Zealand team, the defending champions, play their first opponents - England - about 3pm.

The final will be played on Saturday night.

For the fans, $10,000 is on offer for the supreme winner of the best costume competition.
