Rain and then fine again

5:01 pm on 4 February 2013

A large band of rain over New Zealand will bring some relief for farmers but forecasters predict the weather will be fine again mid-week.

Dry conditions last month mean lower than normal soil moisture levels.

MetService says heavy rain is due in western parts, the upper South Island, Taranaki, the Tararua ranges and the Central North Island hill country.

After a period of rain on Monday and Tuesday, duty forecaster Heath Gullery says there will be a ridge of high pressure, bringing fine weather for most of the country on Waitangi Day.
