A Dunedin woman charged with abducting her granddaughter took her because she was frustrated by a lack of custody access.
Yvonne Skeet, 47, unemployed of Mosgiel, was arrested on Sunday when she was found with Bailey Johnson, aged two, at an address in South Dunedin.
Ms Skeet took the child from the Otago Farmers Market on Saturday.
Lawyer Anne Stevens applied for bail in Dunedin District Court on Monday.
Ms Stevens says Ms Skeet admits her actions were inappropriate but she took Bailey because she was frustrated at not being able to get access from her ex-husband, who the child now lives with in central Otago.
Police opposed bail, saying they fear Ms Skeet would repeat the act.
They said she went to a friend's house, altered the numbers on her licence plates with black tape and covered the car with a tarpaulin to avoid detection, which showed she had planned the abduction.
Judge Edwin Paul adjourned the bail application until Tuesday, saying he wanted Ms Skeet interviewed by a psychiatrist first.
