A senior Canterbury police officer has admitted a charge of assault in court.
Sergeant Craig Prior appeared in the Christchurch District Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty.
District Commander Superintendent Gary Knowles says police will continue to deal with the matter internally and will not comment further on the case while it is before the courts.
Mr Prior was remanded at large to reappear in April when it is expected that a sentence of diversion will be discussed.
