Police in Nelson are appealing for witnesses after a woman was raped in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The 18-year-old was walking along Bridge Street towards the Suter Gallery just after 1am, when she was grabbed and dragged into Queen's Gardens where she was attacked.
The offender was frightened by the sound of passers-by and ran off; the victim was taken home by a taxi.
Police describe him as Pakeha, about 5.5 feet tall with very short hair and aged between 20 and 25.
