Pharmac says access to medicines to be more consistent

Drug-buying agency Pharmac says it has moved a step closer to providing more consistent access to hospital medicines across the country.

Pharmac is compiling a national list of all hospital medicines to be funded from July this year.

It wants to eliminate the differences in access district health boards have had to hospital medicines; and make savings.

Pharmac says it has now approved the medicines to be funded for the first two of 16 treatment areas - cardiology and rheumatology.

It says the list will ensure standardised access to hospital medicines, and mean medicines prescribed in hospitals will also be funded in the community.
