A 21-year-old man has been charged with murdering a five-week-old baby in Taupo earlier this month.
The baby, Jayrhis Lock-Tata, died at Auckland's Starship Hospital on 7 March two days after being admitted to Taupo Hospital.
Several of the baby's maternal family members were at Taupo District Court when the accused man, 21, appeared on Saturday.
The man, who has name suppression, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Rotorua District Court on Friday.
Earlier, Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said he had thanked the baby's extended family for their help and co-operation.
