German tourists marry while skydiving

The first couple to get married while skydiving in New Zealand tied the knot on Saturday afternoon over the Abel Tasman National Park.

German tourists Jan Schslesner and Susann Lasch are avid skydivers and jumped from 16,500 feet.

They exchanged vows in the aircraft before leaping out together, followed by their marriage celebrant and a cameraman.

After freefalling for about a minute the pair deployed their chutes and landed at Motueka Airport.

Mrs Lasch says the reality of the situation only sank in once she touched down.

She says they filmed the event in order to share it with family and friends back home.

The couple will now spend their honeymoon travelling New Zealand.
