A man will appear in court in Porirua on Monday charged with attempted murder after a woman was subjected to what the police describe as a prolonged and serious assault.
They say the assault happened at about 9am on Sunday between the Porirua Railway Station and Kenepuru Drive.
Police believe the 54-year-old woman was approached from behind and they are seeking assistance from members of the public who may have been in the vicinity around the time of the assault.
It appears the assault was random and unprovoked.
A 23-year-old man was arrested by police at the scene.
