Accommodation under pressure as student enrolments rise

Several universities say an increase in enrolments is putting pressure on student accommodation services.

Canterbury University spokesperson Renee Walker says hostels on that campus are operating at 97% occupancy. She says more students are looking for help to find flats or homestays in the university area.

Ruth Moorhouse, from Victoria University, says there has been a similar increase in the number of students seeking support in Wellington.

She says halls of residence have always filled up quickly, but with increased numbers of people choosing study over work, finding a place could be more difficult.
