A Porirua man appeared in court on Monday charged with the attempted murder and sexual violation of a woman.
His appearance followed an incident near Porirua at about 9am on Sunday.
The man, 23, who has interim name suppression, was remanded in custody to reappear on 19 February at Porirua District Court.
Judge Jan Kelly ordered a psychiatric assessment.
