Guilty verdict in taxi driver rape trial

5:32 pm on 16 March 2009

A Wellington District Court jury has found a Wellington taxi driver guilty of two charges of raping a passenger. However, it found 56-year-old Abdirazak Mussa not guilty of abducting the woman.

The charges were laid after an incident in September 2006 in which the Crown alleged Mussa took the passenger to his home, deadlocked the door to prevent her escape and then raped her twice.

The jury deliberated for seven hours before returning its verdict on Monday.

Mussa has been remanded in custody for sentencing on 22 April.
