The man charged with causing the death of Allan Hubbard will defend the charge at trial in June.

The Timaru businessman died when the car he and his wife were travelling in and a four-wheel-drive collided north of Oamaru on 2 September 2011.

Andy Earl from Mosgiel has pleaded not guilty to charges of careless driving causing death and careless driving causing injury to Mr Hubbard's widow, Jean, who was driving the car.

Mr Hubbard, 83, was facing 50 fraud charges at the time of his death.

The Oamaru court registrar on Tuesday confirmed that three days are set down from 4 June at the Timaru District Court.
