The Christchurch City Council has closed another of its social housing units.

Thursday's closureof 11 units at the Biddicks Court complex in Dallington comes two weeks after the 31 units in the eastern suburbs were shut.

The Christchurch City Council is carrying out detailed engineering evaluation assessments on about 2500 social housing buildings.

About 480 units have been closed since June last yearbecause they do not meet new building standards, with the council repairing and reopening six units.

The council's general manager of community services, Michael Aitken, says the repair of social housing is an urgent matter but insurance negotiationshaveheld up repairs.

Mr Aitken says more units are likely to be shut.
