Police are investigating the death of a woman they say was hit by a train in the Christchurch suburb of Hornby.
They expect to release her identity on Sunday.
Officers were called to the scene in the suburb of Hornby on Saturday after a call at 9.40am from a member of the public.
Police say the woman, aged in her forties, died just before 5am. They are asking for anybody who may have seen something around that time to contact them.
The tracks were closed but re-opened at 1pm.
