The New Plymouth District Council is imposing a rural fire ban as hot, dry weather looks set to continue.
Open-air burning is to be banned and existing fire permits will be suspended in rural parts of New Plymouth from midnight on Wednesday.
South Taranaki from Hawera to Opunake has had a ban in place since January and that is being extended to include all areas.
